Speech therapy is the science that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of speech, voice and, by extension, communication difficulties in children and adolescents. The initial indications that lead to a specialized speech therapy intervention program are the following: a) the child does not pronounce a specific letter or sound correctly, b) frequently repeats words or stutters, c) the intensity, timbre and quality of the voice are not as expected, d) uses very few words in relation to his age, e) has difficulty following simple instructions.

Speech therapy can begin, depending on the child's difficulties, very early (2 - 2.5 years old) for Pervasive Developmental Disorders or even later (4.5 - 5 years old) for simple Articulatory and Phonological Difficulties.
